Cool Results: engaging clients in e-learning

Networks Mini-Online Event of 12-14 September 2005:

 

Highlights:

This FREE mini-online event is an exciting professional development opportunity that allows you to:

  • Gain insights to apply e-learning within industry and specific client groups
  • Find out about current directions and innovations related to e-learning emanating from across Australia and internationally
  • Explore more 'cool tools' for e-learning, especially those that captured attention during the June mini-online event

The focus is on the application of e-learning to specific client groups, such as those associated with various industries, Adult Community Education (ACE) clients and Indigenous clients. You will also be able to explore some international perspectives on the main themes.

 

Registration

you do need to register and log in to the mini-online event which is being held on the LearningTimes Australia site. Go to http://home.learningtimes.net/lta?go=934051

 

Step 1: Use your Username and Password to log in to the LearningTimes Australia (LTA) site. If you are not yet a member of LearningTimes, select the ‘Join’ button to create your Username and Psssword.

Step 2: Fill in the short ‘Registration Form’ and click the ‘Sign me up’ button to register.


You will receive an automated email confirmation of your registration with important information about how to participate in the event. Importantly this email will give you instructions on how to ‘Edit your profile’ and set your time zones so that all the event’s sessions correspond to your local time. The email will alos explain ho you can indicate your interest in live sessions by using the ‘Set Reminder’ function.

 

Live and asynchronous sessions:

You will be able to be involved in both live synchronous sessions and asynchronous discussions. Synchronous sessions will mainly use the web conferencing software, lluminate.

 

Keynote speakers

 

Anne Bartlett-Bragg of the University of Technology, Sydney (UTS) will provoke your thinking with her presentation - 'Can technology enhance learning?' Learn more about future learning paradigms and the possibilities of social software.

Professor Nigel Paine , Head of BBC Training will expand your vision and horizons about e-learning from his reflections on the training of BBC's 27,000 staff. Be prepared to be inspired by Professor Paine's energy, enthusiasm and keen intellect.

Cool Tools for E-learning - Networks Mini-Online Event of 8-10 June 2005:

This event enabled participants to:

  • Become aware of a range of online tools for e-learning
  • Access, explore and use the tools

Participants were able to explore tools, such as blogs, wikis, online journals, mobile learning tools, web conferencing software, online voice tools, open source software, and tools related to games and quizzes. From exploring these tools, participants were able to gain insights on how to implement a variety of e-learning tools for effective blended learning.

Availability of Elluminate 'Meeting Room'

Access and use of an Elluminate (virtual classroom software) 'meeting room' is available for networks funded under the Networks Project and other VET professionals interested in e-learning!

Michael Coghlan will draw up a schedule of times for those involved in the funded e-learning networks interested in regular meetings. You can also arrange non-regular meetings by contacting the Networks Project team.

Elluminate: Installation/Ports and Firewalls

These Troubleshooting Elluminate (PDF 31Kb) Installation/Ports and Firewalls (PDF 31Kb) and Proxy settings and Firewall information (PDF 87Kb) documents inform you about the requirements needed to download and install the software, and directs you to a site to test your access. The installation of the software is an automated process, though there can be potential difficulties associated with firewalls. The document outlines information that you may need to direct to IT support staff to appropriately configure a port on your firewall and/or determining and configuring HTTPS Proxy Settings to access the Elluminate virtual rooms.
